Processing
The first step in the eDiscovery practice once data has been collected is to process the data in preparation for review. This can ultimately be the most important step in eDiscovery because it defensibly reduces the data volumes to manageable amounts prior to review.
Pre-Processing – We can help reduce your review by 50% before you even start!
De-NIST: Our pre-processing services enable us to reduce electronic data sizes at the earliest stages in the eDiscovery lifecycle. For a fraction of full processing costs, we utilize a procedure known as de-NIST to identify all unwanted system files that have been found within a collection. These files typically do not require review and are not included in the review process.
De-dupe: Another pre-processing tool that we utilize is a process called de-duping, which takes any EXACT duplicates through Meta data, hash code verifications and text recognition and will link all duplicates to one version for review. The average that has been found in most cases is between 30-40%. Imagine a collection that has hundreds of duplicates of the one document, and then imagine only having to review ONE; review just got a whole lot easier.
Date Filtering: If your litigation has a pertinent date range that needs to be focused on, another tool we offer as part of our pre-processing service allows us to narrow all the data collected, to only files that have been created or edited based on a certain date range.
Processing
Once pre-processing has been completed, MSI uses Viewpoint’s advanced capabilities to provide the ability to filter and process large volumes of data in a fraction of the time it would normally take. With this scalable technology, our clients can begin to review and analyze data sooner, as well as perform analytics and data assessments early on in the case, before data is posted for review. Our processing platform allows us to very quickly perform numerous, highly complicated tasks that historically have taken numerous software products and internal resources to accomplish, such as:
TIFF creation, Optical Character Recognition (OCR), Cracking encrypted documents, linking images and Meta Data, creating HTML & Text files for each image, Creating slip sheets for inappropriate or corrupted content, building advanced indexes of data for review and more.
Both pre-processing and processing are crucial to any review. By reducing redundant and unwanted files early, Mountain States Imaging and our services helps save an average of 50% in review time, which saves a lot of man hours and helps work within confined budgetary constraints of your litigation.
